A grizzled warrior walked to the middle of the arena. “The next competitors are Isab Trede of the Southern Territories Regulars and Heko Ketlas of Emoria.”

The crowd murmured. They all seemed to be straining to get a look at Heko. She ignored them and faced her competitor.

“The first warrior to get three touches of aggression wins.” The warrior looked at Isab and then Heko and strode to the sidelines.

Heko and Isab circled each other, making a show of sizing the other up.

Isab unsheathed her sword. Zandar had explained this was supposed to be an action of intimidation. Heko still couldn’t shake her lifelong belief that it was a sign of cowardice. Isab casually showed off her ability to flip her sword. Heko stopped circling and crossed her arms.
